How HomeKit Secure Video works
Eve Cam and Eve Outdoor Cam were built from the ground up to protect your privacy. That's why they exclusively tap into HomeKit technology to deliver state-of-the-art privacy by design. Absolutely no communication outside of HomeKit, direct live access without any cloud exposure, local video analysis and secure storage of recordings in your personal iCloud thanks to HomeKit Secure Video - here's how it works.
Get started at once.
When it’s your home, it’s all about your privacy. As with any Eve accessory, inviting Eve Cam or Eve Outdoor Cam into your home requires no registration, and there's no account, no tracking, and no parallel data sharing. Eve does not harvest your personal data, and the cameras never get in touch with any external server. So you can get started right away without sharing any details about yourself. Ever.
Direct access to live video.
When you’re looking at the live feed from your camera, it’s not being streamed through a server. It doesn’t matter where you are – you’re establishing a direct and fully encrypted connection to your home thanks to your home hub (Apple TV or HomePod). The live images never reach any cloud or external server.
Local intelligence.
When it comes to recording, HomeKit Secure Video comes into play. You can set the camera to record every motion, or limit recordings to only when people, animals, packages and/or vehicles are detected. To tell the difference, the camera sends a live video feed to your home hub whenever motion is detected. A local neural network on your Apple TV or HomePod intelligently determines if a person, animal, package or vehicle is in the video. This way, the data is analyzed securely in your home, not in the cloud.
Secure recording history.
Only when your criteria are met, a recording is stored securely and fully encrypted in your iCloud. The key to unlock these recordings resides exclusively on your personal devices – your iPhone, iPad, or Mac using the same iCloud account. When you access a recorded clip, it is decrypted locally on the fly, in a secure process that's only available to the Apple Home app.
Going further.
Encrypted recordings are saved in your personal iCloud account for ten days and don’t count against your storage limit. If you want to hold on to a recording, you have the option to save it permanently. A simple tap is all it takes to save a decrypted video in your local camera roll - all of the sophisticated encryption architecture is invisible to you. But be sure it's always there to protect your privacy.

HomeKit Basics
HomeKit uses three types of locations to manage both your Eve devices and any HomeKit-enabled devices from other vendors. The main three types are "Rooms", "Zones", and "Homes." Within Homes you’ll find "Scenes" and "Groups," which offer an easy way to control several devices with one command inside a Home.

Hi.As said in the installation video, I have two cellular bars near where my camera is installed. Yet the cam constantly switches from online to offline because of connectivity issues. What distance do you guys require for it to work correctly ?

Hello,Can I see live feed on my iPhone if I am in a different state than my camera (without iCloud)?

Hello Bassil! As for all HomeKit enabled accessories for remote access a home hub is mandatory, an Apple TV 4/4K and/or HomePod/mini. You may then view live video remote while traveling. Best regards, Volker- Reply

I have installed 2x EVE Outdoor Cam, with the latest firmware 1.01(40). Also using the latest Telstra Gen 3 NBN modem. Kindly explain the timer “Now, 1s, 2s… sometimes upto 42s, then Now”. I also have a video recorded when someone visited us with the video missing few steps. Is it when it is counting no video is recorded? Are it collects on local memory when the counting is on and then uploads to icloud 24/7 or only when there is an event? Kindly help to avoid missing frames.- Reply

I have added Eve outdoor Camera and EVE foot and window smart contact recently. Great products. It will be great for eve to stand by its core value about the privacy by stop forcing “update available” in Apple Home App related to “Eve for HomeKit app” under other available updates and there is no option to suppress it.I know it is good to know there is such an app available for the customer, but if the customer doesn’t want another app for privacy reason, then should be able to decline and the update available message on home app to go away for this advertisement, and should be enabled for updates only. Please take this seriously and please communicate fix or solution ASAP.

Hi Roger! HomeKit/Apple is forcing the notification on available updates, there is not much we can do about. Best regards, Volker- Reply
Hi Volker, thanks for your prompt response. Please note that notifying user about Eve’s own app is not an update! I understand installing EVe app may have additional features that i dont want.
This is advertising!!! Tell me if I dont install your App is there a security risk? And any future security updates wont get patched if i dont have Eve’s app! I believe you App terms and conditions do not align with EVE’s Nobile idea of serving customer who needs entire privacy from 3rd party App! Pls reconsider your stand on this matter! All i want to see is the “update Available” on home app disappear relate to your advertisement.

Hello Roger! You will get notified in the app Home if a firmware update is available, like for all accessories. If it is for an Eve product you need to laugh the app Eve to apply the firmware update. Best regards, Volker- Reply
I’m so excited to see your outdoor camera. I hope you will now considering making a smartlock. (Or perhaps that’s already in secret development.) I’ve been looking for an elegant, private, and secure version. Level Lock has a beautiful lock that doesn’t look like a smart lock, but it requires the use of Level Lock’s app. That approach is neither private nor secure. I’m hopeful Eve will come to the rescue- Reply

Good afternoonDoes the Eve Cam have the capability to detect if / when a person falls and send an alert or call an Emergency contact number, eg. 911? Thank-you, Paul Lythgoe

Hello Paul! Unfortunately no camera with HomeKit Secure Video (HKSV) from any vendor can do that, including Eve Cam. All HKSV cameras can notify your iPhone/iPad if motion is detected in front of and optional record. Best regards, Volker- Reply
Although advertised as an indoor camera, are there any limitations if used outdoors in a location protected from rainfall, snowfall and sunlight in temperatures between 0° and 75° F ?- Reply
Hello Larry! Please don't use Eve Cam outside, the operating range are: 0°C - 35°C / 32°F - 104°F, 5% - 95% humidity.Best regards, Volker

Greetings! Is there a limit to how many cameras I can have connected to my network?- Reply
Hello Tony! In general it is only limited to the DHCP space that hold a max of 254 Wi-Fi accessories. When having a home hub and an iCloud plan with 200GB one Eve Cam will also provide Streamming & Allow Recording to iCloud. When having a 2TB plan like I have, up to five. All additional Eve Cams or other cams with HomeKit Secure Video (HKSV) will only provide Live-Video then. Best regards, Volker- Reply
Vielen Dank vorab, Andreas

Any plans for outdoor cameras?- Reply
Hello Olaf! Sorry, but I am not allowed to talk about future product plans. I wish you and your loved ones a happy and healthy new year 2021! Best regards, Volker- Reply
Hello! So very glad to see this setup. It's exactly the architecture I've been longing for, although, indoor cameras are not our priority.
Outdoor cameras and a doorbell camera are our priority. We've been wanting a Ring for ages, but I am not satisfied with how they handle (or rather, don't handle) privacy and ownership of consumer data.
Are there plans to make weatherproof outdoor cameras and a doorbell as well?
Note, we're in the USA.
Thank you,
Krys
