Eve Energy Adds "Works With Home Assistant" Badge,
Android Support and Matter Energy Reporting

Munich, Germany – April 10, 2025 – Eve Systems, a leading provider of smart home devices and part of ABB, today announced support for the Matter standard’s energy reporting capabilities through its Eve Energy smart plug. To accompany this, Eve is releasing version 1.3 of the Eve app for Android, which adds support for Eve Energy, including power consumption and projected cost insights, distilled into detailed graphs. Eve also takes a significant step forward in platform support and announces "Works With Home Assistant" certification for Eve Energy.

"Eve Energy is now in its tenth year of delighting customers with advanced reporting that is beautifully presented in the Eve app," says Jerome Gackel, CEO of Eve. "With the 'Works With Home Assistant' badge and rich Android functionality on Google Home, Eve Energy brings cross-platform energy transparency."

Eve Energy with Matter energy reporting

With the firmware update released today, Eve Energy is laying the foundation for manufacturer-independent energy management in Matter. The plug’s previous, proprietary methodology is being replaced by the reporting functions specified in Matter, which Eve helped to develop as a member of the Connectivity Standards Alliance. The aim of this standardization was to create an open interface for the collaboration of devices from a wide variety of sources. On platforms that follow the example of Home Assistant and natively support energy reporting, plugs such as Eve Energy will provide real-time data such as power, voltage and amperage as well as cumulative power consumption values, enabling dynamic and automatic device control, based on this data. What’s more, the new firmware also improves the robustness of Eve Energy, especially in large Thread networks.

Eve products with Matter-over-Thread support in Home Assistant

Eve and Home Assistant share fundamental values such as local control without a cloud and safeguarding user privacy. Eve Energy connects directly to Home Assistant via Thread and is comprehensively mapped. Eve Systems is having additional sensors, energy, lighting and heating control devices as well as roller blinds certified for "Works With Home Assistant" so that the community can enjoy the platform’s powerful automation options seamlessly – with Eve-quality hardware.

Eve Energy in the Eve app for Android

The Eve app for Android, which is based on Google's Home APIs, includes all of the key features for Eve Energy, such as autonomous schedules and power consumption monitoring with visualisation and cost calculation. The parental control for the LED button on the device can also be activated in the app. The new firmware is available for the Eve Energy models for Australia (2nd gen.), Switzerland, Europe (4th gen.), the United Kingdom (3rd gen.) and the USA and Canada (4th gen.).

Price & Availability

Eve Energy is available for $39.95 (US) from Eve, Apple and Amazon. The firmware update with support for Matter energy reporting can be installed via Matter Controllers for Apple Home, Google Home, Home Assistant and Samsung SmartThings. The Eve app for iPhone and iPad and the Eve app for Android can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple App Store and Google Play Store. To use Eve devices with Matter support on the Home Assistant platform, a compatible Thread Border Router is required.

About Thread

Thread technology is specifically developed for smart home applications to improve connectivity between devices. Thread creates a mesh network, within which lights, thermostats, outlets, sensors, and more can also talk to each other free of the constraint of having to go through a bridge. If a single device fails, the data packets are simply relayed to the next in the mesh. In short: the network becomes more robust with every additional Thread device. Mains-powered Thread devices that are always on, such as Eve Dimmer Switch, can act as router nodes within the Thread network and relay data packets. So, the more of these Full Thread Devices are present in the network, the more stable and greater its reach becomes. Learn more.
