Get alerted if your indoor air is polluted
Always know when it’s time to air your home. Simply read on to learn how you can have a red light alert you that your indoor air quality is poor.
Since HomeKit doesn’t include any air quality notifications, you can do something about it yourself by having a colored light warn you. That way you’ll always be alerted even if you don’t have your iPhone with you – and so too will everyone else in your home.
The first step is to get yourself a sensor such as Eve Room to detect poor indoor air quality. The accessory does this by measuring the VOC level in your home’s air. Almost everything emits these volatile organic compounds: Your furniture, appliances, toys, skincare products as well as everyday activities such as cooking & cleaning – even people do! By keeping your windows shut, indoor VOC concentrations can build up quickly to an unhealthy level.
Know when it’s time to air your home with Eve Room and Eve Light Strip together with a simple automation. It’ll spring into action if your home’s air quality is worse than or equal to a certain level and make Eve Light Strip (or Eve Flare) glow red during the day. You, or anyone else in your home, will then know it’s time to open that window to let some fresh air in. Your automation will also ensure everyone gets a sound night’s sleep by only triggering the light during waking hours – after all, you don’t want a red alert going off at night.
You’ll need a home hub to take care of running your automation. Incidentally, you can simply repeat the steps to add an automation for other rooms.
If you want to fine-tune your air quality even further, add a further rule that gets triggered if your air quality is 3 stars, with an additional scene to have your Eve Light Strip or Eve Flare glow orange. And, of course, you can also add a rule to set your accessory to glow green as soon as your indoor air quality is good again.

Time to tackle dry air caused by your heating
Automate your humidifier with Eve Energy and Eve Room: As soon as the mercury drops and the heating fires up, it’s goodbye to feeling cold and hello to cozy warmth. But after a few weeks, you start noticing some symptoms triggered by the dry air at home: drier skin, sometimes bloodshot eyes, one headache after the next or poorer sleep.
The home hub: An essential device for HomeKit-enabled accessories
Whether you connect to your HomeKit accessories via Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or Thread, your connected home is simply incomplete without a home hub – an Apple TV, HomePod or HomePod mini. Your home hub gives you both secure access to your accessories while you’re on the go and enables you to set up automations.
Royal Society of Physicians Stress the Dangers of Indoor Pollution
A recent report showed that over 40,000 people die every year in the UK from conditions caused by air pollution. It’s a worrisome figure. The report on air pollution by the Royal Society of Physicians included something that may come as a surprise to many in the UK. The fact that it’s not just the air outside that is a danger to us, but the indoor air at home and at work.

Hi, ER reported 4 stars air quality and I run my Dyson air purifier PH04 with full performance to purify my air but ER after 1h report still 4 stars and Dyson reported Good AQ(good is max) - 0-3ug/m3 PM2.5, 0-3ug/m3 PM10, Formaldehyd 0.009mg/m3, also in EVE app - surprisingly level is only worse of VOC.- Reply
Hello Matt! Eve Room measures tVOC, not measuring PM2.5, 0-3ug/m3 PM10, Formaldehyd 0.009mg/m3. Best regards, Volker- Reply
Hi. I am using the Eve Room to help me identify and solve a problem with my chimney. The readings are great BUT I would like to be able to download measurements and/or access history so I can figure out what solutions work and what is causing the problem. Is there a way to download or access historical data?- Reply
Hello Bob! Please open Eve Room in the app Eve and tap on the tini blue circle to access all measurements. In the next window tap on Measurements. Then tap on the tiny action menu left from Edit to export the historical data in Excel format. Best regards, Volker- Reply

Hi! Is there a minimum distance the sensor should be kept from a wall? Does the proximity to a wall influence the measurement, and should it be placed far away from a wall?- Reply
Hello Jan! It should be away 2cm/1 inch as the two holes on the back are for ventilation of air for the tVOC sensor. Best regards, Volker- Reply
Hi, I bought a Eve Room and water Guard and was sure that Push notification will be part of the product. But now I read that it is not! This is a big problem and makes the product useless to me, since I need allerts while I'm not at home! You say in a comment above that it is not possible because HomeKit does not provid notivication. But what about your owne APP? The EVE app?? Why is that not able to send notivication? this is a very big shortcoming of this product! If there would be at least IFTTT, there would have been a solution! I'm very disapointet!- Reply
Hello Niki! Eve Water Guard doe support HomeKit notifications once a leak is detected. As Apple does not provide notifications for temperature or humidity in HomeKit, we can't either, sorry. Best regards, Volker- Reply
Hi,My VOC levels are around 1 which is pretty bad. Bedroom with no ventilation apart from window that remains closed during winter. Opening the windows for 10 min changes from 1 to 3 stars but obviously I can’t let it open when temperatures are around 0C outside. Based on client testimonials and your own tests, would an air purifier improve (3 starts or above) a room of about 11 square meters? Thanks

Hello Pauline! In case the purifier clears one of the following from the air:https://www.sensirion.com/fileadmin/user_upload/customers/sensirion/Dokumente/9_Gas_Sensors/Sensirion_Gas_Sensors_SGP3x_TVOC_Concept.pdf
it may help - but I doubt it. Best regards, Volker

Or you could enable HomeKit Notifications in your devices. https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT208939- Reply
Sadly, Home app notifications don't appear to work for the Eve Room. For most accessories, it shows "Status and Notifications" where you can set notifications. For the Eve Room sensors, however, it only shows "Status" in that area…which kinda sucks, because I'd much prefer your idea.- Reply
Hwello Cory! As HomeKit/Apple does not provide notifications for temperature or humidity, we can't either. Only Apple could change this. Best regards, Volker- Reply
Is there any way to have an automation play a simple ring tone live Alert say if the temperature range rule is true? I need a simple Bluetooth enabled only alert. It no extra wfi home hub, a simple alert sound between two battery powered device Eve Home and my iPhoneThanks

Hello UrdaMan! Sorry, this is not possible with HomeKit. A home hub is mandatory. But even with a home hub as HomeKit/Apple does not provide notifications for temperature (and humidity) this won't even work with a home hub, sorry. Best regards, Volker- Reply
Question, can Eve room be installed with a charger contected 24/7 ? Would this improve reachability? Would it harm the device in any way?Br henkjan

Hello Henkjan! One of my two Eve Room (2018) is connected to a charger 24/7 since two years. No problem, but no range extension of cause. Just keep in mind as for all of these batteries having it 24/7 attached, the battery life will decrease once you decide one day to use it without charger. Same applies to iPhones and other accessories. Best regards, Volker

Is it possible to simply get a notification on my phone? This would be much more convenient since I might not be in the same room with the light strip (eg out of town).- Reply
Hello RK! As HomeKit does not provide text notifications for temperature or humidity, this is not possible. Only Apple could integrate that. Best regards, Volker- Reply
Can the Eve app send a push message on iPhone when air quality changes?- Reply
Hello Paul! HomeKit/Apple does not provide notifications for temperature, humidity or air quality, so we can't either, sorry. Best regards, Volker- Reply
Hallo, ich habe mir vier Eve Rooms gekauft. Drei funktionieren gut.

Hello Eve Team,Could you please advise if there is any way to calibrate Eve Room temperature and humidity sensor?
When I compare measurements to reverence device I see some constant offset.

Nikita

Hello Nikita! There should be no difference, Accuracy typical ± 0.3°C / ± 0.54°F, typical ± 3% humidity. What is the accessory you compare to? Best regards, Volker- Reply
Thank you for your answer. If the accuracy 0.3°C and 3% then it's within tolerance.
Compared to Bosch Room Thermostat, tado temperature sensor and classical fluid thermometer.
Nevertheless it would be nice to have such option.
